The GE 90/30 was born out of a collaboration between GE and FANUC. The prefix IC697 for each part number represents the 90/70 family. A complete part number will begin with IC697 with a middle 3 letter designation IC697MDL940 and a 3 character designation that finalizes the part number. The various middle designation are as follows:
MDL is a discrete input or output module or a mixed I/O module
ALG it is an analog input or output module
CHS is a base or rack
CPU which stands for a alone or chassis based CPU or Processor
CPM Is a single slot CPU with 32 bit floating point math 1MB memory
CPX is a single slot 512k – 1 Mbyte (model dependent) memory module
MEM is a memory expansion module. The memory expansion are processor (CPU) specific
PCM is a co-processor module
CGR which is a single slot 32bit Floating point memory module, 512k or 1MB
HSC is a high speed counter module
CMM which stands for communications module or interface module
PWR which stands for power supply
BEM has several designations, but is basically a interface module
There are other “middle “ designations such as RCM, MSC, but the above listing are the most commonly used modules.
The 90/70 series was discontinued in mid 2011 and was a moderately successful product line and it did not enjoy the success of its younger brother the GE 90/30 series.
